Let go and trust God to direct your steps His way. His ways are simply infinitely higher than our ways.
In the passage of scripture in John 11:1-44, Mary and Martha, Jesus’ good friends, sent a message to Jesus asking Him to come heal Lazarus, their brother, because he was deathly sick. Jesus intentionally stayed away to allow Lazarus to die because He had a resurrection in mind, not a healing. Mary and Martha, quite honestly, couldn’t understand why Jesus would prolong staying away, thinking to themselves that Jesus could have easily healed Him if only He were present. In their limited ability to see what God was up to, they thought it was too late for Jesus to do something about their crisis.
“Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died” (John 11:21 NLT).
This was Jesus’ response,
“Your brother will rise again.”
“Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.”
Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha”” (John 11:23-26 NLT)?
Again, Martha couldn’t quite grasp what Jesus was saying to her or what He was up to. The story continues…
““Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.
But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”
Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe”” (John 11:39-40 NLT)?
Jesus then tells Lazarus to “Come out!” And Lazarus is raised back to life after being in the grave for four days! Mary and Martha were shocked in amazement and so were all that gathered there. In their limited vantage point, they thought only a healing was possible, but God had a resurrection in mind! It not only blessed Mary and Martha but all who saw the miracle and news quickly spread through the region. Sometimes God allows circumstances and events to unfold in our lives that are different than what we would have chosen so that after we walk through the trial with Him, our story can be an inspiring testimony of what God is capable of doing.
How many times do we get stuck thinking God has to bring to pass the dreams in our heart the way we logically think? Or how many times do we have tunnel-vision, believing their is only one way to get out of debt, step further into our career or overcome an addiction, mend a broken relationship or meet the right person? Our God is a supernatural God. He has ways of doing things that are simply higher than our natural ways. God wants us to trust Him that He has the end from the beginning figured out and knows how to get us to our final destination. If we will continue to have child-like faith, trusting God, He can bring to pass every dream He promised us no matter how impossible it looks to you or me. The key is to trust God, especially when we don’t see a way forward.
That’s what happened to me. I was working as a landscape architect for a number of years, but knew God had something greater in store for me. I sensed in my heart a season change was coming, but I didn’t know how I was going to get from where I was at to where God ultimately wanted me. He used an economy collapse, of all things, that caused me to lose my job, and in turn, forced me to look outside the box to find work. I eventually became a writer. Who knew this untapped potential was on the inside of me just waiting to come out? God! In the heat of the moment, I wouldn’t have signed up the way it all went down, but in the end, it was the best path to get me to where God wanted me. In fact, the journey taught me so many lessons I needed to learn, so I would be prepared for the new season God was taking me into, which was to write for Destiny Rescue, a global Christian nonprofit that’s dedicated to rescuing children from sexual exploitation and human trafficking and helping them stay free. Are you thinking healing when God has a resurrection in mind? As you stay open to God, I believe and declare that God will get you to where He ultimately wants you and you will be amazed and stand in awe at how He does it!
