God is faithful. From cover to cover of Scripture and throughout history, we see God keeping His promises to His people, individuals and nations. According to Merriam Webster’s Online Dictionary, faithful means:
-
- Steadfast in affection or allegiance – loyal
- Firm in adherence to promises
- In observance of duty or given with strong assurance – binding.
I love the part of the definition that states: “firm in adherence to promises.” That is God’s very character and nature. When He says He is going to do something, He means it. You can take it to the bank and count on it every time! He will make good on what He says He will do.
The Bible says in Hebrews 10:23 NLT,
“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”
God was faithful in keeping His promise to the Israelites when He told them they would possess the land He swore to give them. He was also faithful to David when He promised him that he would become Israel’s king. And do you remember the story of Joseph? God was also true to His word in bringing the dream He gave him to pass. God told him that he would be a great leader in the future and his family would serve under his leadership.
What’s interesting about each of their situations is that it took time for God to fulfill them. The promises didn’t happen immediately, not in a week, a month or even a year or two. So, what did David, Joseph and the Israelites each have to do while they waited? They had to trust God by faith that no matter how impossible things looked in the natural, God was faithful to bring their promise to pass in the right season!
The Israelites faced an enormous challenge. They were enslaved in Egypt for 430 years and there was no way on their own they could have freed themselves. But God! He raised up a deliverer in Moses and showed His incredible power, humbling the mighty Egyptians through divine plagues and the final blow by having the Red Sea come crashing down on them. God then went before His people into the land He swore to give them, conquering all their enemies. God can do what man can’t, and when He goes to work, there is nothing anyone can do to stop His plan from coming to pass! David was hunted by King Saul and his elite soldiers for years in the wilderness. Joseph was sold into slavery and then thrown into prison for a long time. He didn’t see his family for over two decades! God divinely orchestrated a famine in the land, causing Joseph’s brothers to come to interact with him! Except for this time, Joseph wasn’t the young little brother. He was the second most powerful person in Egypt, the Prime Minister!
These men and the people of God had to remain in faith regardless of what their circumstances appeared like. In doing so, God brought each of their dreams to pass at just the right time. God was, without exception, faithful!
God has proven His faithfulness to me, too. As a minor, I was sexually abused. I felt like my childhood was robbed from me. And in my flesh, I felt ripped off. In college, God spoke to me deep on the inside, “Cory if you will trust Me by faith, I will make great good out of this negative situation one day.” In that Holy moment, I chose to drop the bad attitude and I grabbed ahold of God’s word to me. Thirteen years later, I came across an organization called Destiny Rescue. This incredible organization was rescuing children from sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Once rescued, they helped these precious children stay free so they could live out their God-given destinies. I felt compelled to help in some way because of what had happened to me. Long story short, I went to work for Destiny Rescue as a writer and have been working for them for over nine years now. Since being hired, we have rescued over 7,300 individuals, mostly children, from sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Today, I travel all over the United States being a voice for children trapped in sexual slavery. I look back and see God’s incredible faithfulness. His timing was perfect. Through the time I waited, God brought healing into my life so I could help others facing sexual exploitation.
For years, I had to trust God’s faithfulness by faith. But today, I know that I know that I know He is faithful because I’ve experienced it firsthand!
I want to encourage you that God is faithful. What promise has He made you? Is it to bring justice to your cause? Is it to start a ministry, go back to school, launch a business or write a book? Is it to get married, have a family or become a missionary? Whatever it is that God has promised you, He will bring it to pass if you don’t give up or quit trusting Him. He is developing your faith and character in the wait. Remember, His ways are higher than your ways. In one moment, He can change your situation and launch you into your divine destiny. Stay open to God and watch Him prove His faithfulness to you in ways you can only imagine.
